The Washington County Ice Bantam B team won the Championship Game at the New Richmond 26th
Annual Ross Kittel/Lyle Parin Memorial POW/MIA Bantam Tournament on January 13th and 14th.
The Ice opened the tournament Saturday morning against the Minneapolis, Minnesota Storm. While
Washington County started fast, the Storm struck first. The Ice answered 10 minutes later and the
teams were tied 1 after 1. The Ice continued to carry the play and added 2 goals in each of the remaining
periods for a 5-1 victory.

Next up was the host, the New Richmond Tigers. Building on their 1st game, Washington County
tallied 2 goals in the 1st to take the early lead. The Tigers continued to battle and got the only goal of the
2nd period to close within one. The Ice responded with 4 goals in the 3rd period to close out the 6-1 win.

Sunday’s Championship game had the Ice facing off with the Orono, Minnesota Spartans. Washington
County came out on the attack and scored 3 goals in the 1st period. But the Spartans fought back to get
the only tally of the 2nd period. While both teams had several opportunities in the 3rd (including 1 pipe),
neither team could light the lamp. Washington County took the final contest 3-1 to win the tournament.

The tournament also awarded a “Best Defensive Player” award for play over the weekend. Unable to select a single player, the award was presented to the Washington County Ice Defense: Talon Vorpahl,
