The Washington County Ice Pee Wee C team earned the Consolation Championship at the Sheboygan Hockeyville Tournament from January 15th to the 17th.
The Ice opened the tournament Saturday morning against eventual tournament champion Waunakee Black. It was a hard fought game, but Waunakee pulled away with 3 goals in the 2nd period on their way to a 5-0 win.
Washington County returned to the rink for an evening game against the Crystal Lake Yellowjackets. The Ice got on the board 1st with Ethan Schickert’s tally (assisted by Alex Petersen), but the Yellowjackets answered late in the period with a power play goal. The teams traded goals midway through the second with Tyler “Frankie” Bartz netting the score for the Ice. Washington County then got two more goals late in the second by Matthew Ferrier and Quinn Daczka (assisted by Adam Olson and Matthew Ferrier) to take a 4-2 lead. Tyler got his second goal of the game early in the 3rd period while the Ice were shorthanded, but the Yellowjackets were not done as they mounted a rally late in the 3rd to get within one for a final of 5-4 Ice.
This set up a meeting with SHAW U14 for the Consolation Championship. The Ice came out firing and jumped to a 2-0 lead in the 1st period with goals from Tyler Bartz and Ethan Schickert (assisted by Alex Gonzalez). Ethan then added 3 more goals (1 in the 2nd, 2 in the 3rd) for a final 5-0 Ice victory.
