The Washington County Ice Pee Wee C team captured second place at the WCYHA Pee Wee C Invitational tournament from December 11th to the 13th.
The Ice opened the tournament Friday night with a 7-2 win against Ozaukee Pee Wee C Green. It was a close opening period with Ozaukee taking a 2-1 lead (Matthew Ferrier had the lone Ice goal). But the Ice stormed back in the 2nd period behind goals from Chris Petersen (Alex Petersen with the assist), Ethan Schickert, and Alex Petersen (Matthew Ferrier had the assist). Washington County took the 3rd period with 3 goals; one from Hunter Jansen (assisted by Carson Phillips), and 2 more goals from Chris Petersen for his 1st hat trick of the season (the 1st assisted by Matthew Ferrier on the power play, the second assisted by Alex Petersen).
The Saturday game had the Ice facing off against the Middleton Wings. The Ice came out fast and jumped to an early 2-0 lead behind 2 goals from Matthew Ferrier (Chris Petersen had the assist on both goals). The second period had the Ice getting the only goal in the opening minute: Hunter Jansen got the tally with an assist by Carson Phillips. The third period was another fast paced, back and forth period with the Ice opening the scoring 3 minutes into the period (Chris Petersen, assisted by Matthew Ferrier). Middleton kept skating hard and answered at the 7 minute mark with their only tally for a final score of 4-1 Ice.
Capturing 10.5 out of a possible 14 points in the round robin earned the Ice a place in the championship game against Waunakee Pee Wee C Black. It was a hard fought game, but the Ice couldn’t solve the Wildcats’s goalie Alexander Kaminsky as they fell 4-0 to Waunakee.
While the outcome was bittersweet for the Ice, they learned much and showed excellent sportsmanship in all 3 games.
