The Washington County Ice Squirt B team traveled to Oregon for the WAHA 2015 Squirt 2B Championship where they earned a 3rd place finish.
The first game was against the host, the Oregon Panthers. The Panthers came out strong and netted the opening goal late in the first period, but the Ice answered with Odin Klebba’s goal, assisted by Landon Edwards and Sam Harrison. Oregon scored early in the second to take a 2-1 lead, but again the Ice answered late in the period - this time with two quick goals. The first from Tyler Bartz (assisted by Landon Edwards) and the second from Ben Elgersma (assisted by Chris Petersen and Quinn Daczka). The Ice then carried the play in the 3rd period and at 8:41 Odin Klebba scored with a helper from Alex Petersen. With 4:37 remaining in the game Alex Petersen closed out the scoring on an assist from Odin. Final for Game 1: 5-2 Ice over the Panthers!
The second game was a tough, physical game against eventual Squirt B Champion Shaw. The Ice opened the scoring early in the 1st on Odin Klebba’s goal, with assists from Sam Harrison and Talon Vorpahl. Shaw came back scoring twice late in the first to take a 2-1 lead into the second period. Camden Luedtke tied the game with a burst of speed following a stretch pass from Tryton Yamaguchi, but Shaw answered later in the period to regain their 1 goal lead. The Ice got the equalizer off the stick of Tryton Yamaguchi, assisted by Odin Klebba and Camden Luedtke at 5:43 of the 3rd period. The overtime periods saw lots of end to end action with Shaw getting the game winner at the 5:14 mark of the second overtime period.
The third place game was a matchup with Region 5 Season and Playdown Champion Kenosha. It was a fast and intense game with The Ice opening, and closing, the scoring at the 8:35 mark of the 1st period with Chris Petersen netting the game winning goal on an assist by Ben Elgersma. The stout defense of Carson Phillips, Quinn Daczka, Talon Vorpahl, and Alex Petersen combined with superb goaltending from Maura Farrell earned the team their 8th shut-out in the 1-0 season finale.
Squirt B finished with a 24-15-6 record, going 13-2-1 in February and March.
