SQC Black defeats Waunakee 4-3 to win 3rd at State.

The Squirt C Black defeat Waunakee Wildcat Black 4-3 to win 3rd at State!
The Ice C Black first played Sheboygan and came out skating hard and fast with goals at 1:02, 2:50 and 8:46 of the 1st period. Three more goals came in the second period to establish a firm 6-0 lead. The final score was 6-2 in a game that was an explosive offensive production and demonstrated a great passing attack, solid shut down defense and strong goaltending.
In the semifinals, the Ice C Black faced our own C Green team. The C Green came out from the start skating hard and dictated a hard fought game on us as they scored at 0:11 and 2:13 into the 1st period. Regaining our composure, we battled back and skated hard the whole period fighting off two penalties and keeping the determined Green C off the scoreboard. In the 2nd period Green continued to press and scored 3 more unanswered goals. We entered the 3rd period refocused and scored 2 goals to bring it to 5-2, before Green scored 1 more time. The C Black didn't give up, generating 30 shots total (15 in the 3rd period) to Green's 15 total, but faced an uphill battle and a determined Green team backed by their stellar goaltending. Black lost 6-2 to our friends, the C Green.
In the 3rd place game Sunday, the C Black were motivated and came out skating hard again, demonstrating a run and gun offensive style scoring twice in the 1st period to establish a strong lead. Waunakee continued to battle and we finished the 2nd period up 2-1 after killing off back to back penalties without giving up a short handed goal. The Black continued to play our game style in the 3rd period and scored :39 into the period, up 3-1. Waunakee responded with a goal, bringing it to 3-2 and it was tight checking 3rd period down to the end. Waunakee scored again, tying the game with 3:37 remaining. After both teams called back to back timeouts to refocus their groups, Conner Voss stepped up and pressed the puck through the defense and shot hard to get the game winner with 11 seconds remaining on the clock! Our goaltending was superb, being out shot 20-11. Our defensive bent, but never broke and the Black showed what it takes to rebound from a depressing defeat the day earlier, to earn the 3rd place trophy in a true team effort!
