The PWB team traveled to Green Bay for the George Heimbuch Tundra Tussle on February 22nd and 23rd and came home with the first place trophy. The team edged out Superiorland Kiwanis 4-3 in the title game. Casey Fisher started off the scoring quickly just 1:34 minutes into the first period. Connor Hester netted a short-handed goal in the second period and Daniel Voigt added a goal to take a 3-1 lead going into the third period. Voigt scored his second goal of the game and eventual game winner on a power play goal at the 7 minute mark of the third period. The game was far from over as the team had to kill the second of two 3 on 5 man disadvantages and then another penalty with 2:34 remaining in the game to preserve the win.
The team started out the tournament with a loss to the host Green Bay Bobcats 3 -2 in an evenly matched game that could have gone either way. But the team never gave up and avenged an earlier shootout loss to Shawano at the Rhinelander tournament with a 6-2 thumping lead by Connor Hester’s hat trick. A convincing 8-2 win over KG Remax of Iron Range knotted up pool play resulting in a three way tie between Green Bay, KG Remax, and Washington County. The Ice won the goals against tie breaker due to the outstanding goal play by goalie Corbin Guy. Superiorland easily won their pool with a 3-0 record averaging 7 goals a game while only giving up one goal per game. But Corbin and his teammates were not to be denied the hardware and returned to Washington County as Champions.
