PWA traveled to Middleton, WI on January 25 & 26, to play in the Middleton Sports & Fitness Hockey Classic. The Ice was led by goaltender Noah Grannan in game 1 to a 4-0 Shutout vs. the Waunakee Wildcats.
In the second game on Saturday afternoon, the Ice played a very physical game vs. the Cedar Rapids Jr. Roughriders. Tyler Herzberg broke a 2-2 tie with a goal with 1:24 remaining in the second period, and the Ice pulled away in the 3rd to a 6-2 win, and set up a meeting with Stevens Point in the Championship Game on Sunday afternoon.
The Stevens Point Ice Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st Period, on a couple of interesting bounces of the puck. The teams left the ice after the first period for a resurface, and the Ice emerged from the locker room a team on a mission! Coach Haga's intermission speech ignited the Ice to a Tyler Herzberg Power Play Goal 28 seconds into the 2nd period, followed by a Gavin Pickett goal on a nice 2 on 1 pass from Brady MacDonald 40 seconds later, and then a goal from Riley Kress 50 seconds after that to take a 3-2 lead. Adam Butler paced the team with 5 assists, enroute to a 6 goal period and a 6-2 lead! The Ice did not look back, finishing off the Ice Hawks, 7-4 for the Championship.
Congratulations to Coach Al Haga and his team for winning the Championship in Middleton. GO ICE!!!
