Our Pre-Hockey program is designed for the beginner hockey player (ages 4 to 12). We encourage both boys and girls to participate. Skaters will learn the basics of skating, puck handling, passing, shooting, and many of the other skills involved in the game of ice hockey.
Pre-hockey is a development process used to prepare players for travel youth hockey. Once experienced in pre hockey, skaters will be invited to play on one of our travel teams or if young enough they can go to our ADM program before playing with our travel teams.
Rental equipment is available for a returnable $150.00 deposit and a $20.00 rental fee.
ADM is for boys and girls age 8 and under. The American Development Model (ADM) was introduced by USA Hockey to prepare players for travel youth hockey. There is an emphasis on the development of skating and hockey skills in a noncompetitve, cross-ice, in-house environment which allows for more "touches" by the number of players on the ice. We are in agreement with USA Hockey's philosophy that this environment best facilitates the development of players for a travel team environment.
ADM skaters will have two (2) full ice practices per week. We will begin games in late November, and participate in a couple area ADM Jamboree's after the New Year.
These teams are for experienced skaters. Tha travel teams often encounter extensive travel during the season. Our Travel Teams practice two (2) nights per week, and play games/tournaments on weekends. Travel teams play an average of 30-40 games. The team you are placed on is determined at try-outs; which are conducted under the supervision of WCYHA coaches. The evaluations and ratings of players are done by independent, experienced hockey coaches, who are not affiliated with WCYHA. Travel teams require a committment - both from a parental support standpoint, and from a financial standpoint, as most teams participate in 2-3 tournaments per season - all of which are funded by the members of the team or their sponsors. See our online handbook for futher details.
Most players with WCYHA will have an opportunity to play hockey at the high school level. Our association is affiliated with the Germantown Ice Bears Co-Op program, which is a WIAA affiliated team. Please click on the link below for more information about the Ice Bears program.
