Washington County Squirt A win Ice Invitational

The Washington County Ice Squirt A team completed an Ice sweep on Sunday afternoon downing the Beloit Blades winning the Squirt A Ice Invitational tournament.  The team took 12.5 out of a possible 14 round robin points to make it to the championship game.

They opened the tournament with a strong team game against the Sheboygan Lakers winning 5-1.  The scoring was spread out with goals by, Chase Pickett, Mason Bublitz, Turner Postulka, Sawyer Lichtensteiger and Liam Quinn, adding a shorthanded goal to round out the scoring.  A solid defense with Hayden Anderson and JohnPaul Beine along with a strong goaltending performance held the Lakers to only one goal. This would turn out to be the only goal scored against the team all weekend.

In their next game the dominant team effort continued with a shut-out victory over the Glacier Ice Dogs 6-0.  Down a man for this game the team stepped up and again dominated play with scoring from Colton Kress and Peyton Fountain both finding the twine twice.  Goals were also scored by Turner Postulka and Jacob Reinke.  Once again defensive dominance and solid goaltending (keeping the shutout intact late with a flash of the leather by Kenny McAughey robbing a top shelf shot) kept the Ice Dogs from lighting the lamp, earning all 7 possible points for the game.

In the final Sunday versus Beloit, with the gutsy return of Chase Pickett, the team was again at full strength and showed their heart and hustle that has made them a team to be reckoned with.  In their two previous games, the Beloit Blades had easily dispatched their opponents putting up a snowman in each game.  This did not faze our boys and they went out on a mission, with one goal in mind, bring home the championship.

Both teams performed well and play went back and forth and with just under 5 minutes to go in the first Turner Postulka opened the scoring, which would prove to be the only goal they would need.  Turner Postulka followed up his opening goal, potting his second of the game late in the second period.  Peyton Fountain and Sawyer Lichtensteiger also found the back of the net to ensure the victory.  A continuing theme of solid defense and goaltending proved too much for the Beloit Blades with a final score of 4-0.

Congratulations to all the players and coaches on a strong performance.

Next up,  Waupaca tournament.  Go get em' boys!
