Shawano Squirt C Tournament Champs

The Washington County Ice Squirt C team traveled to the Shawano Squirt Tournament on January 10 – 11th and took first place, despite playing all Division I Squirt C teams!

In the first game, the Washington County Ice took on the Stevens Point Badgers. The Ice took an early four point lead in the first two periods thanks to a hat trick by Ethan Schickert and a goal by Nick Vogel (Sawyer Stein assist).  However, the Badgers rallied to close the gap by putting four goals on the board.  Ethan Schickert made one final goal sealing the deal.  Final score was 5-4 Ice.  Great job by Charlie Eckert in the net!

In the second game, the Ice Team faced off with Stevens Point’s other team, the Sharks.  The Sharks came out fast and furious scoring two early in the first period.  In the second period, Washington County rallied with two goals of their own thanks to John Pfaff and Cash Wichlacz to tie it up.  The Sharks pulled ahead with two more goals and Jack Airaudi answered with one of his own (Pfaff assist), but the Sharks won 4-3.  Alex Champeny had a great game blocking 20 out of 24 shots on goal!

The third game was going to determine if the Washington County Ice was done for the weekend or going to the championship game. This time we faced off against the renowned Everest hockey program.  Everest scored the first two goals, but then the Ice turned on fire by scoring seven unanswered goals (Ethan Shickert – 5 goals – assists by Nick Vogel, Cash Wichlacz, Alex Champeny, Aiden Kuechler, Hunter Jansen, Adam Olson, John Pfaff; Cash Wichlacz – 1 goal, and Jack Airaudi – 1 goal. Ice wins 7-2 and on to the championship game! Charlie Eckert did an excellent job with 11 saves out of 13 on goal!

The championship game was a rematch with our only loss and nemesis, the Stevens Point Sharks.  Washington County drew blood first with a goal by Jack Airaudi (Hunter Jansen assist).  Ethan Schickert scored a pair of goals (Dillon Canard assist) in the second period, but then the Sharks began their rally tying up the game in the third period. Sudden death overtime began with many close calls, but the Ice charged the net aggressively with Hunter Jansen making a shot on goal that was blocked, but Nick Vogel was there for the rebound and SCORE! Washington County Squirt C Ice wins the championship game!!!
