Congratulations to the Pee Wee A team!

The WCYHA Pee Wee A team qualified for the 2A State Tournament, which was played March 16-17 in Chippewa Falls.

PWA played their first game on Saturday morning against the Fox Valley Blades.  In a tight game throughout, Ethan Carmichael scored a Power Play goal with 1:08 remaining in the 3rd period, and Noah Grannan completed the shutout, to beat the Blades 1-0, to advance to the winners bracket, and second round matchup vs. the Janesville J-Hawks.

The evening game against the J-Hawks was an exciting affair throughout.  The Ice took the early lead 1:27 into the first period, on a slapshot goal from Gavin Pickett.  Janeville tied the game before the end of the first period.  Early in the second period, Matt Likins buried a wrist shot to the top shelf, and was followed by a hard, blue line slap shot from Zach Airaudi, to give the Ice a 3-1 lead 3 minutes into the 2nd period.  Janesville battled to score 3 goals in a 2 minute stretch to end the 2nd period, and take a 4-3 lead into the 3rd period.

About 4 minutes into the 3rd period, Eli Kopish scored on a wrister to tie the game up at 4.  The teams battled throughout the rest of the 3rd period, but no more scores, and the game went to overtime.  The Ice appeared to win the game on an Evan MacDonald goal, 3 minutes into the overtime session, but the goal was waived off on a high stick call.  The Ice continued to dominate the overtime period, outshooting the J-Hawks 8-0, with the game winning shot going in with 1:05 remaining in OT1, off a nice wrist shot from Evan MacDonald from the left side of the net, to send the Ice to the Championship game with a 5-4 OT victory!

The magic ran out in the Championship Game, as the Ice squared off against the DC Everest Flames, a National Top 20 Team.  The Ice fought hard, and skated their hearts out, but the Championship was not meant to be, as the Ice were outshot 38-8, and outscored 7-0 in the game.

A well fought State Tournament, and a well deserved 2nd Place 2013 State Touranment finish.  Congratulations to the Ice, a great group of young men and the coaching staff, Eddie MacDonald, Doug Pickett, and Dave Airaudi.
